Notice: May 24 Community Partnerships Public Meeting
The four Ottawa-Area school boards are required to hold an annual Public Meeting to make local agencies, as well as the public, aware of the facility partnership process for potential tenants sharing space in schools. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Ottawa Catholic School Board, 570 West Hunt Club Road. The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public or potential partners to identify themselves for consideration as possible tenants in future “facility partnership” arrangements, either in existing schools where surplus space may be available, or for joint use arrangements within planned future schools, or in vacant / closed schools, and as part of future school closure processes. Prior to the meeting, interested parties are requested to read the Ministry of Education Community Planning and Partnerships Guideline and review the various school board policies, or to contact the board representatives. Visit for contact information.
Notice: PD Day Friday, June 8, 2018
The next PD Day will be Friday, June 8, 2018 for all OCSB schools. As per Ministry of Education directive PPM 151, the OCSB is pleased to share the agenda for this mandatory professional development (PD) day. Notice: Have your say. Vote for your OCSB Trustee.
Ensuring you have a voice in in the upcoming municipal election means ensuring you are on the voter’s list so that you can vote for an OCSB Trustee. By default, everyone’s school support is automatically directed to the “English Public” school. This means that you may need to proactively change your direction of school support (taxes) to “English Separate” in order to vote for an OCSB Trustee. Update your status quickly and easily at Learn more.
Notice: 2018 Municipal election process for Trustees
The next regular municipal elections will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018. This includes election for the office of school board Trustee. A candidate for school board trustee must be eligible to be nominated as a candidate for election under Section 219 of the Education Act. View supporting resources, election key dates, and the live listing of 2018 nominated municipal candidates.

Peace be with you

Peace be with you

On May 16th and 17th, I attended our 24th annual Elementary School Peace Festival. Students from across our Board gathered to share their ideas and affirm their commitment to make the world a better place. As a Catholic community, we not only teach about our faith, our students and staff express their faith through their actions. We heard of projects including recycling initiatives, raising funds for medical research, donating hair, feeding and clothing the homeless, peer ambassadors, and many more. Leadership is evident from the very young to the older students in the school, and their ability to articulate this in front of hundreds of students is truly inspiring.

We celebrate the feast of Pentecost this weekend, concluding the Easter season in our Church. In Sunday’s Gospel reading, Jesus greets his disciples with the words “Peace be with you.” At the OCSB, we see daily the works of mercy and compassion, for justice and peace in our schools and for our world.

Ottawa Catholic School Board mourns loss of Trustee Kathy Ablett

The Ottawa Catholic School Board  is saddened by the passing of Trustee Kathy Ablett, R.N. on Saturday, May 12. The Board of Trustees and OCSB staff extend sincere condolences to Trustee Ablett’s family and friends. Trustee Ablett represented River/Capital (Zone 9) and was involved in Catholic education her entire life. Over the past 27 years as Trustee, she has demonstrated accountability, accessibility, and a true commitment to the success of all students, making significant contributions to the environment of servant leadership within the OCSB.

A dedicated and persistent advocate for Catholic education in the city, Trustee Ablett was committed to raising the profile of Catholic education as a gift that Catholics must be prepared to safeguard. She was honoured with the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’  Association (OCSTA) Trustee Award of Merit in 2009 for rendering exceptional service to Catholic education. She was also the recipient of the Success by Six award from The United Way Ottawa in recognition of her efforts to provide educational opportunities for the very young.

A thoughtful advocate for her constituents, Trustee Ablett was elected to the Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate School Board from 1988 to 1997 and returned in 2000 to 2018 as Trustee with the amalgamated OCSB. She served as Board Vice-Chairperson in 2005, and Chairperson in 2006 and 2007.
