Notice: Supporting children during stressful times such as the tragedy in Parkland, Florida
In stressful times, be it international, national or local events, it is important for families and schools to work together to foster supportive relationships for our students. Caring adults need to help children and youth understand their emotional reactions, to help them engage in positive coping behaviours and to be supportive of each other. We’ve assembled some tips which may assist you while helping children and youth to feel safe. View our resources.

Notice: Immunization records and OPH notices
Parents have a responsibility not only to have their child immunized (or have a valid exemption), but must also ensure that Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has their updated records. Parents may direct their questions regarding suspension notices to Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744. Update your child’s immunization record by visiting ParentingInOttawa.ca.
Notice: Voluntary Early Years Survey
The Ontario Ministry of Education is collecting information from families about the experiences of children in child care and early years programs in Ontario. The data is being collected through an online survey at the time of registering your child for kindergarten for the first time. Collecting this data will help the Ministry understand how families access programs and services in their communities. Complete the survey at ocsb.ca/EarlyYearsSurvey.

What began as a community outreach project for 38 students in Grades 10-12 from St. Pius X High School has turned into something that is being widely shared an embraced throughout both the school board and greater community. St. Pius’ School Resource Officer, Ottawa Police Service Constable Phong Le, challenged the students to make a difference by getting to know a part of their community that is often marginalized and misunderstood.
The students then undertook “The Oaks Residence Project” along with five OCSB teachers to reach out beyond their school community to collaborate with residents and staff of The Oaks, Shepherds of Good Hope supportive housing. The end result was a calendar which is being sold to raise awareness about The Oaks and raise funds to support it.
The were interested in communicating an important message: that all people are important and it is our responsibility to make sure everyone gets what they need, such as a safe place to live, food, clean water, access to medical care, and, most importantly, a sense of community.read more
On Wednesday afternoon, I had the pleasure of attending an event at the Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa, recognizing the top employers in the National Capital Region for 2018. It brings me great joy to share that the Ottawa Catholic School Board was recognized for the fourth year in a row as being a great place to work and learn.
As we have in years past, I invite our entire OCSB community to celebrate with us by participating in our #ocsbCelebrates social media campaign. This special campaign allows us to pause, observe, and recognize the outstanding employees that make our school board such a wonderful community.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this exciting activity, and congratulations to the employees of the Ottawa Catholic School Board for this outstanding accomplishment. Let’s celebrate!read more
