It’s been another record-setting year for the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s United Way campaign. OCSB employees raised $533,362.93, with $404,981.52 being directed to the Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa. We also met our goal of 80% participation among staff for the second year in a row. The generosity of the staff in this school district is both amazing and inspiring.

This year, we asked that employees “Pledge It Forward” in the spirit of repaying their own blessings by offering support to others. The generous employees of the OCSB really connected with this message. They understood that while they may not know exactly how their donation will change a life, they know that it will.

At the Announcement Ceremony on Friday, December 8, 2017, central OCSB staff witnessed the unveiling of the total funds raised with the help of seven very special guests from St. George, Dr. F.J. McDonald, St. Emily, and St. Joseph Schools. We had the numbers a little mixed up at first, but with the help of the students and some “Price Is Right” theme music, we were able to get all of the numbers in order for the audience.

Over the past 11 years, OCSB employees have raised over $6 million for The United Way Ottawa. The OCSB remains was one of the top workplace campaigns in the city of Ottawa. The campaign is just one of the ways the OCSB works to make our community a better place for everyone to live, grow, and learn.

As the OCSB Campaign Co-Chairs, we are so proud of how our staff has come together to continue this legacy of giving this year. We congratulate the 19 schools and departments who achieved 100% staff participation in 2017. Thank you for hearing and answering the call to give, and for pledging it forward to The United Way.

Pledge it forward

The United Way Ottawa directly benefits young people in our community with emphasis on homework clubs, counselling programs and healthy lifestyle promotion. United Way Ottawa works in consultation with various organizations within the community to identify any gaps in services and neighbourhoods in need. Improved contributions by organizations like the OCSB means programs can be enhanced to help a greater number of the people in the community.
